Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
Thought and memory-provoking memorabilia from the famous '72 Canada-Russia Series are these Russian nesting dolls, two of the various size wooden dolls given to Team Canada players by their Soviet counterparts prior to Game 4 of the series, played in Vancouver on September 8, 1972. A full-page colour photo of five Canadian players holding their dolls just after receiving them in the customary pre-game exchange of gifts is included in the classic "Twenty-Seven Days in September" book (page 67). Thin wooden two-piece affairs have vibrant colours, with the smallest standing 4 ½” inches high and the other at 8 1/2". A couple of cracks show on the upper half of the bigger doll but are tough to spot when upper and lower are joined. Stellar mementos indeed from the iconic series. Comes with an LOA.
