Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2023
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/29/2023
A classic set that is high up on everybody’s want list in the hockey card hobby, O-Pee-Chee’s 1971-72 set featured a checklist that consisted of 264-cards as well as the first year cardboard offerings of future Hall of Famers Ken Dryden, Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne. Offered here, we present this lot of 131 cards from the 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee hockey release that have been signed by the player pictured on the front. Paced by autographed examples of 20-P. Esposito (VG-EX to EX - light corner wear), 35-Bucyk (FR to GD - crease and corner wear/dings), 80-Keon (FR to G - crease and corner wear/dings), 97-Ratelle (EX to EX-MT - slight corner wear), 114-Clarke (VG to VG-EX - light corner wear), 120-H. Richard (VG to VG-EX - corner wear and a light surface scratch), 125-Mikita (VG to VG-EX - corner wear), 143-Savard (GOOD - faint crease at top border and scuff at bottom left), 153-Howell (VG to VG-EX - light corner wear and ding), 193-Sittler (VG-EX to EX - slight corner wear), 195-Plante (PR - crease and top left corner rip) and 220-Giacomin (VG to VG-EX - light corner wear), all of the cards just listed are signed in either blue or black ballpoint pen with the autographs legible and largely displaying well despite a couple that show varying degrees of fading from age. Additionally, the prime dozen examples listed above are accompanied by a JSA Auction LOA.
Also included with the lot, is a group of thirty-three (33) cards picturing men that would go on to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame that includes Rod Gilbert, Dick Duff, Harry Howell, Jacques Laperriere, Stan Mikita, Bob Pulford, Jacques Lemaire, Frank Mahovlich (x3), Jean Ratelle (x2), Brad Park (x2), Norm Ullman (x2), Johnny Bucyk (x5 - one is his Lady Byng card), Glen Sather, Pat Quinn (x2), Bobby Clarke, Henri Richard, Dave Keon (All-Star card), J.C. Tremblay, Bill White (x2), Roger Crozier (x2) and Pit Martin. Once again, the autograph condition story is largely the same as stated above with the cards in the overall grade ranges of G to VG and VG to VG-EX for the most part. Finally, the rest of the lot presents in the same condition ranges of G to VG and VG to VG-EX for their efforts with a hole punch impacting one (1) of the included cards that is worth mentioning for accuracy. Please note, the JSA Auction LOA that accompanies the group is ONLY for the first twelve (12) cards listed above.
