The Montreal Canadiens made it three straight Stanley Cup championships in April of 1958. The defending champs’ domination of the NHL saw Montreal post 96 regular season points as Jacques Plante won his third consecutive Vezina trophy, Doug Harvey another Norris and Dickie Moore the Art Ross, edging linemate Henri Richard by four points, 84 to 80. In the playoffs Maurice Richard, who played just 28 regular season games because of injuries, once again rose to the occasion. After sweeping the Red Wings, Montreal beat the Bruins in six games and the Rocket’s playoff leading total of 11 goals included his third career overtime winner in the finals, giving the Canadiens a 3-2 win in game five. Bernie Geoffrion then scored the Cup-winning goal in a 5-3 win on Boston Garden ice. This exquisite miniature trophy of hockey’s ultimate prize was produced recently at the request of the Jacques Plante Foundation in Switzerland and features the engraved names of the men who once again made Montreal proud. The Hall of Fame contingent also includes “architect” Frank Selke, coach Toe Blake and team president Senator Hartland Molson. In pristine condition, this fine piece will impress many and be a highlight of a trophy/Canadiens collection. A letter of authenticity from the Plante family will be included.
