Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction February 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/27/2018
Intriguing assembly of cards is highlighted by the depictions of numerous famous boxing greats, while hockey lovers have always admired the lone puck entry, featuring an image of Gordie Howe threatening Rangers’ goalie Chuck Rayner. The latter earned NM-MT 8 status at PSA, the same as boxers 31-Burns, 34-Dempsey, 41-Louis and 76-Sullivan, with 43-Walcott at NM-MT+ 8.5 and 44-Marciano just behind at NM+ 7.5. Also slabbed are two NM 7s; 33-Willard and 42-Charles. The challenging Max Schmeling card is “raw” and EX-MT, with less-than-perfect centering to be aware of. The remainder of the set includes other boxing-themed cards and numerous sports and non-sport subjects, including track and field, baseball, basketball, automobiles, boats, war, animals and the list goes on, with ultra-interesting write-ups about their adventurous histories! Cards mirror the graded examples, with intermittent centering issues spotted, along with light toning, but no creases – this is an attractive colorful ensemble.
