Jacques Plante Auction March 2006
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/28/2006
Gorgeous 13-inch high miniature trophy recalls the Montreal Canadiens’ Stanley Cup title at the conclusion of the ’56-57 season, another one dominated by the Habs. Backstopped by Jacques Plante, the Canadiens again allowed the fewest goals while also leading the NHL in goals scored, with Beliveau, the Rocket, Moore and Henri Richard all finishing in the top ten of league point-getters. Doug Harvey won the Norris Trophy and come playoff time, the Rangers and Bruins were no match for the mighty Montreal squad as Plante allowed the Bruins but six goals in the finals. Maurice Richard scored four times in game one and totaled eight for the playoffs. Dickie Moore scored the Cup-winning goal in a 5-1 victory in front of the home town faithful. The incredible array of Hall-of-Famers and supporting cast members have their names engraved here in two columns beneath the team’s executives, including fellow HOFers Selke and Blake. This fabulous souvenir, produced at the request of the Jacques Plante Foundation in Switzerland, where the legendary goaltender spent his final years, is in perfect condition and recalls part two of the Canadiens’ record run. A letter of authenticity from the Plante family will be included.
