Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
Regarded by many to this day as the greatest hockey player to ever lace up a pair of skates, the name Gordie Howe is synonymous with the game loved and played by so many across the world. In a career that spanned over five different decades from 1946-71 and 1973-80, fans and players alike will still find Howe’s name near the top of the all-time leaderboards all these years later. Inducted into the hallowed halls of the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972, offered here is this copy of Howe's 1952-53 card that was issued by Parkhurst as part of the company's sophomore release. Displaying a posed watercolour like image of the man dubbed "Mr. Hockey" over the front of the card, the reverse shows Howe's stat line from the previous season as well as a bio that describes him as "A beautiful skater and stickhandler", a sentiment that is easy to agree with. Having been recently been returned from grading at PSA, the card has been labeled with an "AUTHENTIC ALTERED" designation over its label. With it not for certain how the card was altered, the image over the front displays a bit off-center from right-to-left and bottom-to-top while light wear is observed to all four (4) corners, which is seemingly heaviest at the bottom right. Housed in a PSA holder that remains in flawless condition, don't miss out on this one!
