Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
In the midst of establishing himself as hockey's greatest player in the eyes of many was Gordie Howe when 1952-53 Parkhurst hockey cards were released, with this example of the Saskatchewan native's second-year Parkie receiving a mark of EX-MT 6 upon its examination at PSA headquarters several years ago. Howe would break his own record in '52-53, his 95 points earning him his third of four straight scoring championships. Card #88 describes the star as a beautiful skater and stickhandler and curiously lists him as standing 5'11". Having been assessed a mark of EX-MT 6 for its effort after inspection by PSA, the sought after cardboard is one of 491 examples graded by the company over the years, with this POP-61 example bettered by only 88 other examples. Retaining good colours as well as clean surfaces and relatively sharp corners, the image over the front is slightly off-center from left-to-right. Housed in a good condition PSA holder that shows some scratches and scuffs over both sides, don't miss out on this one for your vintage portfolio.
