Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
A veteran of twenty-four (24) seasons in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres, Tim Horton, the namesake of Canada's favourite coffee and donut shop, would play twenty (20) years in the NHL wearing the blue and white of the Maple Leafs and patrolling their blue line in a way that struck fear into his opponents. A four (4) time Stanley Cup champion who was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977 and named one of the 100 greatest players in NHL history in 2017, Bobby Hull once stated regarding the late Tim Horton, “There were defensemen you had to fear because they were vicious and would slam you into the boards from behind, for one, Eddie Shore. But you respected Tim Horton because he didn't need that type of intimidation. He used his tremendous strength and talent to keep you in check." Offered here, we present this copy of Horton's rookie card that was deemed worthy of PSA's mark of EX-MT 6 for its effort. Retaining good colours to the front image as well as pleasing centering and just light-to-moderate toning, all four (4) corners show a touch of wear that is worth noting for accuracy. With PSA having graded 425 examples over the years, this card is a POP-43 example that has been bettered by only 66 others like it. Housed in a good condition PSA holder, light scratches and scuffs are seen over both side that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
