Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction February 2025
The first player to reach the 500 goal mark in his National Hockey League career, Maurice Richard would also become the first man to register 50 goals in 50 games. Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961 upon the conclusion of a career that saw him win eight (8) Stanley Cup championships as well as a Hart Trophy in 1947, "The Rocket" was also the first non-politician to be given a state funeral by the province of Quebec upon his passing in 2000. Offered here, we present this copy of Richard's sophomore year card that was found as the leadoff offering in Parkhurst's 1952-53 hockey release. Presenting with excellent colours over the front of the card, which sees its image off-center from right-to-left, the corners all remain quite sharp considering the age while the surfaces on both sides show moderate toning. Deemed worthy of an EX-MT 6 mark from PSA after their inspection of the card, out of the 316 examples that have been graded by the company over the years, this POP-31 specimen is bested by only 24 others. Housed in a good condition PSA holder, light scratches and scuffs are present over both sides that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
