Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction November 2024
Hailing from a season that saw the Detroit Red Wings finish their 26th season of play with a record of 44–14–12 to place first (1st) in the six (6) team National Hockey League, the crew from Motown would sweep away the defending champion Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round of the 1952 Stanley Cup Playoffs, setting up a match up with the Montreal Canadiens in the Stanley Cup Finals that resulted in another 4-0 sweep and Detroit's fifth (5th) Stanley Cup championship in franchise history. The first ever team to post a perfect record in the playoffs, offered here is this lot that includes fourteen (14) of the sixteen (16) Red Wings featured in the 1951-52 Parkhurst hockey card release. Missing only the cards of Gordie Howe and Terry Sawchuk for a complete team set, the grouping includes fifteen (15) cards in all (14 different cards plus a duplicate of 67-Goldham) that have all been graded by PSA. For the better cards, included are those of 55-Kelly RC (PSA "Authentic"), 56-Lindsay RC (PSA "Authentic"), 63-Delvecchio RC (PSA EX 5), 68-Pronovost RC (PSA EX 5), 64-Abel (PSA GOOD 2) and 67-Goldham RC (PSA EX-MT 6). All housed in excellent condition PSA holders, the rest of the group includes examples of 54-Pavelich RC (PSA VG-EX 4), 57-Skov RC (PSA VG 3), 58-Woit RC (PSA VG-EX+ 4.5), 59-Leswick (PSA VG-EX 4), 60-Glover RC (PSA EX-MT 6), 62-Stasiuk RC (PSA VG-EX 4), 65-Prystai RC (PSA VG 3 - "MK" qualifier over the label as well), 67-Goldham RC (PSA EX 5) and 69-Reise RC (PSA VG 3).
