The 2009 Montreal Centennial Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/24/2009
Wonderful old wool sweater sports the well-worn tackle twill logo of the Montreal Canadiens on the chest with the storied number 9, again in two-tone tackle twill on each upper arm and once more on the back. Measuring a full 21 inches across the chest (size 42), this hammered uniform is with around a dozen unrepaired holes and at least a similar amount which have been repaired by creamy darned wool patchworks. We believe this jersey was worn around the late-Fifties at a high level of play, perhaps by a member of a Junior team with affiliation to the Montreal Canadiens, but there is no evidence that it was worn by the great Maurice Rocket Richard. Still, a great old tie-neck, pro-quality wool sweater available at a price far, far below what a real Richard gamer would fetch.
