Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018

Enthusiasts of pre-war hockey cards will be intrigued by this offering as sets or near sets of Canadian Chewing Gum cards are very infrequently available. The individual letters towards the bottom were designed to be cut-off to spell out the full names of (five!) NHL teams, in exchange for a home hockey game, contributing to the cards’ scarcity. All but six of the 50-card issue are considered rookie cards, upping the allure. We rate this contingent as a rather pleasing lower grade assembly. The key Howie Morenz card is but Poor, with three pinholes in the upper region, while that of fellow icon King Clancy is free of real unsightly flaws and in the F-G range. Joining the decent and more eye-appealing lineup (and closer to G than to F) are 28 others, including Aurele Joliat and RCs of Hall of Famers “Bun”, “Busher”, “Ebbie”, Chuck Gardiner, “Babe” and “Nels” – you know who we’re talking about, while Ace Bailey and Pit Lepine rookies are best, making it to VG. Definite Fs with staining or heavier creasing total five and include Lionel Conacher RC and Hap Day, with nine inferior P examples, the latter group’s most notables being Charlie Conacher RC, Horner RC and Connell. Required for completion are rookies of Clapper, Dutton, Hainsworth and Sorrell. A wonderful array of pre-war stars and supporting cast members await!
