Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2019
A member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame, Taffy Abel spent seasons in The Roaring ‘20s with the Rangers before winning a Stanley Cup with Chicago during his final NHL season, in 1933-34. We have a signed 1933-34 Canadian Chewing Gum card of the Michigan native, with this example encapsulated and certified “AUTHENTIC AUTO” by PSA/DNA. Signed to the right of his image in fountain pen, the signature stands out beautifully, with the card itself in low grade, with corner wear, creases and staining, with the bottom portion of the card trimmed away for the set’s offered promotion. The reverse has also been heavily damaged, with some of the text missing from paper loss, with glue residue left from prior scrapbook removal. Born at the turn of the century, Abel would pass in 1964 at 64 years of age.
