Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Invented in the mid-18th century as a teaching tool as opposed to a challenging form of entertainment, jigsaw puzzles have been produced with an endless array of subject matter, with sport the topic most appealing to collectors. We have a framed depression-era example featuring the iconic Montreal Canadiens, accompanied by the original box. The 12” x 12” puzzle features the full team in on-ice poses, with “Les Canadiens 1932-33” above, and management including coach Newsy Lalonde below. The original 7” x 10” cardboard box features “Canadiens” across the front, with the 25 cent purchase price listed along with the Montreal address of the issuer. Framed to 17 ½” squared, both the puzzle and frame exhibit light wear.
We should note that one piece was apparently lost, with a homemade example utilized, and it blends in nicely, located as part of the left glove of Morenz. The box exhibits moderate wear, with toning and creasing present, along with paper loss to the side with French script.
