Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction April 2024
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 4/30/2024
A formidable assembly of cards from an obscure and intriguing regional set is offered here, with players from two teams featured; the 1920-21 Memorial Cup champion Winnipeg Falcons junior squad and the Winnipeg Falcons senior team, famous for being the first champions of ice hockey at the Olympic Winter Games while representing Canada at the 1920 edition of the worldwide sporting spectacle. Presented here for the first time in complete set form, the group includes the elusive short printed card of C. Neil, with this also being the first time we at Classic Auctions have ever offered it as either a single or as part of a set/grouping. Also having never been graded by either PSA or Beckett, three (3) copies of the card have been slabbed by SGC including one (1) sporting the "canceled" stamp on the reverse that earned a mark of POOR 1, and two (2) with out the stamp that have been assessed marks of FAIR 1.5 and VG/EX 4, which is the one included with this assembly. For the remaining nine (9) cards, all having been graded by SGC except for the last card, #10 of J. Austman, which has earned a NM+ 7.5 and is the second highest graded, bested by a lone NM-MT 8, the rest of the set features the examples of #1 Wally Fridfinnson (SGC NM 7 - POP 1 - Highest Graded), #2 Harold Mcnunn (SGC MINT 9 - POP 1 - Highest Graded), #3 Art Somers (SGC EX/NM 6 - POP 1 - Highest Graded), #4 Frank Woodall (SGC EX/NM 6 - POP 1 - Highest Graded), #5 F. Fredrickson (SGC VG/EX 4 - POP 1 - Second Highest Graded), #6 Bobbie Benson (SGC VG/EX 4 - POP 2 - Highest Graded), #7 Harry Neil (SGC EX/NM 6 - POP 1 - Highest Graded) and #8 J.W. Byron (SGC EX 5 - POP 1 - Second Highest Graded). Fascination treasures that are sure to be welcome additions to your all-important collection, all the holders are in good condition as well while showing light wear via scratches and scuffs that are worth mentioning for accuracy.
