Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/21/2017
Somewhat of a mystery regarding its origin, we have a 125 pro model dash-dot-dash H&B bat stamped “Cobb” in block letters, and interestingly, it contains very faint but visible side-writing. A post-J.F. Hillerich & Sons model with the dash-dot-dash designation that places the bat during the 1916-21 labeling period, the 33 ¾” blonde lumber features a Hornsby-style knob with no size indicator, with “Cobb” stamped onto the barrel in block letters. Most likely made for a professional player who preferred Cobb’s style/model, faint side writing is visible along the barrel beneath the center brand, but it’s currently illegible. Hailing from the collection of Brett Hull, a signed LOA from the HOFer will accompany.
The bat’s stampings are fairly deep and display well, with a few large cracks along the handle that have been rectified with period nails. A number of ball/compression marks are also visible along the barrel, along with a few cleat marks.
