Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019

Complete sets of Imperial Tobacco cards are loaded with intrigue and always garner interest, with this ensemble featuring appearances better than the cards’ technical grade. The backs of all 36 cards show evidence of once having been taped, with however a thorough cleaning job leaving, in most instances, only tape stains along the top and bottom portions and no sticky/uneven residue – these are smooth, smooth to the touch and display, with the exception of a half dozen (faded), pleasing colors. We spot a crease or creases in close to half of the cards, including both Art Ross cards, 2-Percy LeSueur, 23-Didier Pitre and 36-Newsy Lalonde. Off-centered but crease-free and among the nicest are 15-Cyclone Taylor and 26-Lester Patrick. They’re otherwise VG to VG+ with light corner wear. The vast majority display in the VG neighborhood, with no heavily-creased fillers present. The very first hockey card set that smokers had a chance to assemble includes 18(!) men elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame, (with all cards considered rookie cards) and is an absolute prerequisite to a Hall of Fame-caliber card collection.
